Star Prairie Land Preservation Trust – August 9th, 2006 Regular Meeting Minutes

Star Prairie Community Center

The August Meeting of the SPLPT was called to order at 7:10 pm by President Stuart Nelson following the 2006 Annual Meeting.

Board members present were Pete Kling, Mike Reiter, Beth Wood, Dave Peterson, Stuart Nelson, Chris Polfus, Jack Hayes, Trish Moberg, Ron Siler and Consultant Cheryl Clemens. Trust members present were Phyllis Menke and Margret Sankovitz.

The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved as presented.

  1. Stuart Nelson gave an update on the current effort to procure a viable site for the construction of the environmental center. Perk testing has shown that the current area is not suitable for a septic system but a land swap could solve the problem. Plans are progressing for a 3 acre swap with an adjourning neighbor.
  2. Mike Reiter discussed the upcoming open house scheduled for Saturday, August 26th at the McMurtrie Preserve. Aleisha Miller has invitations made up that will be sent out to Trust members. Notice will also be published in the local newspaper to alert the public. Aleisha has plans for other activities with area teachers and students later in the year.
  3. Trish Moberg gave a trust update at the Cedar Lake District Annual Meeting held on August 5th. It was very well received.
  4. Beth Wood announced that the new Trust brochures will be available for distribution at the River Island Park Party on August 15th.
  5. The new slate of officers for the upcoming year was approved:
    1. President Beth Wood
    2. Vice President Pete Kling
    3. Recorder Mike Reiter

  6. Cheryl announced that the grant for the South Cedar Bay Landing was approved. It is a grant for $14,500.00 with matching funds of $10,000.00 coming from the Township and $4,500.00 coming form the Cedar Lake District for a total of $29,000.00. Pete Kling reported that the dock will be ordered and construction of the parking lot is scheduled for this fall. Trish will provide student work for some of the dock instillation. Bids will go out for the ground work.
  7. Signage design for the Boche Property has been finalized and signs will be ordered.
  8. Pete Kling reported on the Building Design Team. When finalization of the septic situation is approved, efforts will again proceed.
  9. The nest meeting of the Land Trust is scheduled for October 2nd at 7 pm at Beth Wood’s Home on Cedar Lake.
