Star Prairie Land Preservation Trust – July 27th, 2009 Annual Meeting Minutes

Menke Cabin – McMurtrie Preserve

 

     Prior to the Annual Meeting, a Strategic Planning Meeting was held from 5-7 pm with Varerie Hogan conducting the session. The next Strategic Planning session is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12th from 3-5 pm at the Menke Cabin on Cedar Lake.

 

 

     The 2009 Annual Meeting of the SPLPT was called to order at 7:15 pm by Vice President Pete Kling.  

     Board members present were Pete Kling, Mike Reiter, Mike Kelly, Stu Nelson, Dan Davison, Trish Moberg and Consultants Cheryl Clemens and Aleisha Miller. Valerie Hogan (President of Growth Strategies, Inc.), Paul Schottler (Board of Director nominee) and five Cedar Lake residents were also in attendance.

 

     The 2008 Annual Meeting’s secretary report was approved as read and the financial report was approved as presented. A copy of the SPLPT’s 2008 tax statement was passed around.

 

     Introductions were made around the room by the Board and people in attendance.  Phyllis Menke and Paul Schottler commented on their involvement in the SPLPT’s activities. Phyllis described the evolution of the McMurtrie Preserve while Paul outlined his donation of the development easement on this property. Phyllis also indicated that she would be leaving on August 14th to return to her home in Indiana.

 

Election of Directors:

  1. Nomination Committee Chairman Stu Nelson indicated that the terms of Dave Peterson, Beth Wood and Ron Siler were up for reelection to the SPLPT’s Board of Directors. Dave had indicated that because of previous commitments he would not run again while Beth and Ron had indicated a desire to continue on the Board. Paul Schottler has been contacted earlier and had agreed to run in Dave’s place. With no further nominations from the floor, a unanimous ballot was cast for Beth, Ron and Paul and approved. Dave Peterson was thanked for his time and dedication while serving on the board these many years.  
  2. The Officers of the SPLPT will be selected at the next meeting.

 

Upcoming Events:

1.       The 5th Annual River Island Park Party will be held on August 20th sponsored by the SPF&GA. It will “kick off” the Star Prairie Ox Cart Days celebration.

2.      A review of our current Strategic Planning program was given.

3.      An overview of the Schottler dedication celebration was provided.

4.      The Annual Meeting of the Cedar Lake District is scheduled on August 1st and will be held at the Star Prairie Civic Center.

 

Open Discussion/Closing Remarks:

1.       The past year’s accomplishments were reviewed by Pete.

    1. Copies of the Trail Guide was passed out
    2. A review of the New Richmond High School Service Day was given.
    3. WAV training sessions on the McMurtrie Preserve were highlighted.
    4. Cedar Bay Landing activities were presented.
    5. Enrollment of the Boche property into the SAFE program was described.
    6. Apple River and Schottler easements were reviewed.
    7. An overview of the Jack Hayes Memorial Dedication was given with locations of the sign and dedication stone pointed out to the group.

 

     The next scheduled meeting of the SPLPT is Monday, September 14th, 2009 at Suzanna’s in New Richmond. The second Monday of every other month was selected as potential meeting dates. Remaining meeting dates for 2009 include: November 9th, 2009. 

 

With no further business the session was adjourned at 8 pm.
